Day trip to Lillehammer

When: July – October
Distance: approx. 45 km

How about a trip, by bike, to Lillehammer? If you plan it right you can enjoy a nice lunch in town and catch a ride back up the mountain with the gondola at Hafjell Bike Park

Lillehammer is around 26 km from Pellestova, but luckily almost half of that is downhill! From Pellestova follow the gravel road on the north side of Reinsvatnet towards Indre Reine where you turn right, following signs for Nordseter and ‘’Heimat’’. The road to Nordseter is relatively flat with only a few short climbs to negotiate.

From Nordseter you follow the main road down to Lillehammer, just watch out for oncoming traffic and the odd sheep or two!

An alternative route would be to go via Gropmarken.

On the return trip, head north out of Lillehammer along gudbrandsdalvegen towards Øyer and Hafjell alpine resort, around 14km away. Here you can take the gondola up to Mosetertoppen (be sure to check opening times in advance), and from there you can follow the gravel road 5 km back to Pellestova. This last section is fairly demanding being uphill for the most part. At Nysætra you can either choose to continue along the gravel road back to Pellestova or take the marked trail over the top of Hafjell and down to Pellestova.

Dress for the weather

Always pack some extra clothes should the weather turn nasty.

The weather in the mountains can be unpredictable and change in the blink of an eye. We  therefore implore all our guest top pack accordingly and ideally follow the three layer system: a base layer (t-shirt/thermal top), a mid layer (insulated jacket/fleece) and an outer layer (wind/water resistant shell).

Using three layers allows you to regulate temperature thus keeping you warm should the weather get cold or take one off to cool you down.

If you are planning to stop for lunch it is advisable to pack an insulated pad to sit on.
