Pellestova Hotel is a sustainable mountain hotel in Norway, located at the top of Øyerfjellet in Hafjell. Surrounded by magnificent nature and miles of cross-country ski trails, the hotel is a unique destination for nature-loving guests seeking an environmentally friendly stay in Norway.

Pellestova Hotel is proud to be Green Key certified – a recognized international eco-label for hotels and tourism attractions. This certification confirms that we meet strict requirements for environmental management, resource use, energy consumption, waste management, and social responsibility. It is proof of our long-term and systematic work towards more sustainable operations.

Our privileged location in the mountains also comes with responsibility. We continuously work to reduce energy consumption, limit food waste, sort waste, protect the surrounding nature, and choose more environmentally friendly products and suppliers – without compromising the comfort and quality our guests expect.

Our butchery

At Pellestova, sustainability is not just about reducing distance — it’s about removing it entirely.

Our philosophy of “non-travelled food” means that many of our ingredients come directly from the surrounding mountains. Our own hunters source wild game from the pristine nature around Pellestova, and our skilled butchers process it with care in our on-site butchery.

From skinning to cutting, every step takes place in our own facilities, giving us a deep respect and understanding of the raw materials we use. This hands-on approach ensures quality, minimizes transport, and allows us to utilize every part of the animal responsibly.

The meat from our butchery is used across all our dining experiences – from flavorful pizza toppings and hearty hotel lunches to refined dishes at Slakteriet Restaurant. It’s a true expression of local craftsmanship, Norwegian hunting tradition, and our commitment to food with integrity.

Supporting Local Culture and Producers

Being a green hotel in Norway also means supporting the local community:

  • Every guestroom features artwork from local artists, bringing the region’s creativity into the hotel.

  • Each autumn we host a Local Food Market at Pellestova, giving local producers a platform to showcase and sell their products.

  • Our kitchen works closely with local farmers and suppliers, ensuring short-travelled ingredients and authentic Norwegian flavors.

Sustainable Hotel Operations

We are continuously improving our hotel to minimize our environmental footprint:

  • Energy efficiency: LED lighting and smart control systems reduce our energy use.

  • Waste separation: All waste is carefully sorted so materials can be recycled and reused.

  • Refillable Rituals products: Guest bathrooms feature refillable dispensers that cut down on single-use plastics.

  • Housekeeping on request: To save water, energy, and detergents, rooms are cleaned only when requested, and guests are encouraged to reuse towels during their stay

  • Geothermal energy system: Our modern geothermal heating plant provides efficient and renewable energy for the hotel and nearby apartments, significantly reducing electricity use and CO₂ emissions.

 

Green Mobility and Transport

We make it easier for our guests to choose sustainable travel options:

  • Electric vehicle charging stations are available outside the hotel.

  • Guests dining in our restaurants can enjoy a convenient shuttle service with our electric car, reducing the need for private transport

  • We have invested in an electrified snow groomer that reduces diesel consumption by 30%, helping us maintain ski trails with lower emissions – offering our guests greener and cleaner cross-country experiences.
