Hike Details
Season: May – October (weather and snow conditions permitting)
Difficulty: Suitable for all ages
Distance: 3-6.5 km one way, depending on the starting point
Hitfjell is one of the standout peaks of Øyerfjellet and a favourite destination for both hikers and mountain bikers. With its sweeping views and beautiful mountain scenery, it is a highlight of several routes in the area.
Starting from Pellestova, follow the trail past Malmtjønn and continue up to Pellevegen. From there, follow the signs towards Reinsfjell and Djupslia. At the next junction, continue into Hitdalen in the direction of Djupslia. The trail is well-marked throughout, with clear signposts at every intersection.
The hike from Pellestova to Hitfjell is approximately 6.5 km each way. At the summit (1,083 metres above sea level), you’ll find a picnic table and spectacular panoramic views across Øyerfjellet – the perfect place to enjoy a break with a packed lunch or a flask of coffee.
For a shorter option, you can cycle or drive to Hita Seter and start the hike from there. This reduces the walking distance to around 3 km each way. The initial climb is steep, but once you reach the ridge, the trail continues through gently rolling and easy-going terrain all the way to the summit.
One of Øyerfjellet’s finest summits, rewarded with panoramic views in every direction.

Recommended Clothing & Equipment
Mountain weather can change quickly, so it is important to be prepared for conditions that may differ from those at the start of your hike.
We recommend dressing according to the three-layer principle, or at the very least carrying extra layers in your backpack. This approach helps you stay warm and comfortable while allowing you to adjust your clothing as temperatures and weather conditions change throughout the day.
The base layer should consist of wool or technical thermal underwear. The middle layer can be a fleece or down jacket for insulation, while the outer layer should be windproof and water-resistant to protect you from the elements.
If you are planning to stop for a break or enjoy a picnic outdoors, we also recommend bringing an insulated seat pad for extra comfort.
