Hiking

Hike Details

Season: May – October (weather and snow conditions permitting)
Difficulty:
Suitable for all ages
Distance: 3 km one way

Nevelfjell is one of the most popular hikes in the area, offering spectacular views and easy access from Pellestova. The walk to the summit is approximately 3 km each way and is suitable for both families and anyone looking for an enjoyable mountain hike without particularly challenging terrain.

There are two routes to the top. One starts directly from Pellestova, while the other begins at the large car park near Ilsetra and passes via Slåseterfjell. For those looking for a longer adventure, these routes can be combined into a circular hike of approximately 9 km, taking around 2–3 hours without extended stops.

From the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views towards both Rondane and Jotunheimen, making it the perfect place to pause and take in the scenery before heading back.

The trail from Pellestova begins just below the hotel where Pellevegen starts. Follow the signs for Nevelfjell near the picnic area, and you’ll find a well-marked path all the way to the summit.

From the summit of Nevelfjell, mountain ranges unfold from Rondane to Jotunheimen.

Recommended Clothing & Equipment

Mountain weather can change quickly, so it is important to be prepared for conditions that may differ from those at the start of your hike.

We recommend dressing according to the three-layer principle, or at the very least carrying extra layers in your backpack. This approach helps you stay warm and comfortable while allowing you to adjust your clothing as temperatures and weather conditions change throughout the day.

The base layer should consist of wool or technical thermal underwear. The middle layer can be a fleece or down jacket for insulation, while the outer layer should be windproof and water-resistant to protect you from the elements.

If you are planning to stop for a break or enjoy a picnic outdoors, we also recommend bringing an insulated seat pad for extra comfort.
